Are Oreos Vegan?

Surprise — the original Oreos can be considered suitable for vegans! Although the creme in between each cookie may seem as though it would contain dairy milk, the entire Oreo is actually 100% animal-free.

Since Oreos aren’t intentionally vegan (only a happy accident), it’s worth mentioning that they do contain questionable ingredients like palm oil, and are manufactured on equipment that processes dairy. This is especially important info for those who suffer from milk allergies, but isn’t usually a problem for most vegans, considering we aren’t supporting animal agriculture by buying non-dairy Oreos. However, not all flavors are vegan — some do contain milk.

So, in short, your decision to support this brand depends on where you personally draw the line between vegan-friendly and non-vegan, and what other, possibly more ethical options are accessible to you. Find out which flavors are dairy-free below!

In our extremely diverse world, this will mean something different for each individual.

So, continue doing what you can, and don’t feel guilty about reaching for that pack of Oreos if you don’t currently have access to a more ethical alternative! Striving for progress will always be more sustainable in the long-run than struggling to achieve perfection. Thanks for all you do for our animal friends, and good luck on your vegan journey!
